Spectator sports are very popular in Columbus and the city hosts many professional sports teams. There are also plenty of options available for those wishing to participate in sports and activities. 

Outdoor activities

There are numerous parks in the area that provide gentle leisure and recreational activities. Some of the facilities that you will find include bridle and bike trails, Indian mounds, a botanical park, pioneer cemetery, historical farm, wetlands and a prairie.

Clear Creek is the most remote and primitive. Blendon Woods Metro Park has activities year-round such as cross-country skiing, disk golf, hiking trails and a nature centre. The Sports Ohio has something for everyone; heated golf centre, lighted driving range and a nine-hole golf course providing year-round golfing.
Wyandot Lake is the home of over 45 thrilling rides, slides and attractions. It's Ohio's premiere family water and amusement park, and it provides excitement, thrills and family fun for kids of all ages.

Mad River Mountain Ski Resort has 20 challenging trails for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Over 100 snow guns boost the largest snow-making system in the state. Terrain Parks provide challenges for the adventurous and there is snow-tubing for non-skiers.

Spectator sports

The most popular recreation event that draws the most attention in Columbus is the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. Games are played from late August through late November (and usually in early January), with home games held at Ohio Stadium in front of over 100,000 passionate Buckeye fans.

During the winter months, the Buckeyes basketball team is also a major sporting attraction. Columbus has professional sports teams in hockey, soccer, arena football and minor league baseball. The Columbus Crew Stadium is known for being the first stadium designed specifically for soccer in the United States.
