Colorado Springs Transport

Although there is a decent public bus system, most visitors to Colorado Springs prefer to drive. Parking is abundant and the roads are excellent. Each of the separate neighbourhoods in town can be easily explored on foot, but the distance between these areas is too far to walk. Additionally, many of the city’s best attractions are only accessible by car, so it makes sense to rent a car while you are here.

By bus

Colorado Springs Transit operates the city’s public bus system. The buses reach most parts of the city and even go to neighbouring towns such as Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City. Buses run Monday to Friday from 05:20 to 22:40 and Saturdays from 07:00 to 18:00, with the exception of holidays. Fares within the city limits are very reasonable and increase a small amount if you want to reach a destination outside of town. Call the transit office for more information (tel: +1 719 385 7433).

Taxis

Taxis are available everywhere, especially around the major attractions and hotels. They can also be called by phone and hailed on the street. During major events, and after 02:00 when the bars close, they are very hard to find, so it’s best to carry a phone number for a taxi firm when you go out for a late night.

Tourist services

There is a free trolley service in Manitou Springs, which runs along the main street.

From the airport

The most popular way to travel from the airport into the city is by private shuttle bus. There are several companies providing door-to-door service for a reasonable price. Many hotels also offer courtesy shuttle buses for their guests; ask about this option at your hotel. Taxis are available outside the Arrivals Hall, offering the most convenient, but also the most expensive, way to get to your hotel.

For a bit of style, there are a couple of private limousine companies operating out of the airport. They are surprisingly affordable and can be booked at the airport’s transportation desk. If you rent a car, simply follow the signs from the airport exit, which will lead you straight to the city centre.
