Cleveland Weather

The city of Cleveland enjoys a temperate climate, with warm weather in the summer months and cool winters.

Summer and autumn

During summer, Cleveland offers visitors a pleasant climate and warm temperatures, with the hottest months of the year being July and August, when the highest daytime temperatures can get to about 27°C. Night-time temperatures can plunge to under 20°C. Autumn is a pleasant season, with September and October bringing warm and sunny days.

Winter and spring

Winter in Cleveland lasts from November through to March and the coldest weather comes in January, when daytime temperatures fall to just below freezing. These months generally see snowfall, which can be quite heavy. The lake effect causes snowfall totals to vary greatly across the city; while Hopkins Airport has only reached 100 inches of snowfall in a given season three times since 1968.

Seasonal totals approaching or exceeding 100 inches are not uncommon in an area known as the ‘Snow Belt’, extending from the east side of Cleveland proper through the eastern suburbs and up the Lake Erie shore as far as Buffalo.

Springtime weather and climate in Cleveland is warm and rainy. Cleveland's annual rainfall is around 36 inches and the average snowfall is 45 inches.
