Cleveland Leisure

The Cleveland area boasts some of the best public golf courses in the country, while neighbouring Akron annually hosts the World Golf Championships NEC Invitational at Firestone Country Club. The surrounding region also has two major ski venues: Boston Mills Ski Resort and Brandywine Ski Resort, whose slopes are filled from Thanksgiving through March.

Golf

Cleveland is home to several scenic and popular golf courses and golf clubs, with reasonably priced golfing fees and excellent facilities. The Firestone Country Club once hosted the long-running World Series of Golf, which recently changed its name and format to the World Golf Championships NEC Invitational. Firestone South (the club also includes the North, West and Public nine-hole courses) is more than 7,000 yards from the back tees.

Skiing

The slopes of Boston Mills give visitors a chance to do some skiing without venturing too far from the big city. With 20 slopes between the two parks (nine at Boston Mills and 11 at nearby Brandywine), there is something suitable for every level, from beginner to advanced. Weekend and season packages are also available, along with private, semi-private and group lessons.

Basketball

The Cleveland Rockers have played several years as a contract member of the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association). Playing at Gund Arena, the Rockers have become very popular with the young crowd and are a low-cost alternative to attending a professional sports event. Led by coach Dan Hughes, the Rockers feature star players Penny Taylor and Chastity Melvin, along with international stars such as Ann Wauters.
