Be Safe in Chicago
Chicago is by and large a safe city for visitors and you wont feel in danger or frightened when walking the streets by day or in the evening. However, as with the majority of destinations, the city has its fair share of criminal and undesirable elements and its wise to follow some basic courses of action to make certain that you dont end up a victim.
Safety
Stay away from deserted areas, particularly at night, and dont venture into public parks after dark unless theres a crowd attracted by a concert or similar occasion.
Dont carry valuables with you on the street, and keep cameras or other expensive electronic equipment in your bag or covered when not in use. If youre consulting a map, try to do it discreetly or better still, study it before you leave your room. Keep hold of your pocketbook and place your wallet in an inside pocket. In theatres, restaurants and other public places dont let your belongings out of sight. Always lock your room door; hotels are open to the public and in a large hotel security may not be able to screen everyone who enters.

Health
There are no particular health risks associated with travel to Chicago. Medical facilities are first-rate, but expensive. Only emergencies are treated without payment upfront and treatment can be refused without evidence of insurance or adequate funds. Good medical insurance is essential.
