Charleston Weather

Charleston can be visited year-round, with its southerly location ensuring plenty of sunshine throughout the year. Ocean breezes swoop in from the Atlantic, with the town’s coastal situation bringing milder weather than destinations farther inland.

Mild winters

The town’s southerly geographical location means that the winters here are mild and snow-free. Charlestown is a popular winter retreat, with thousands of ‘snow birds’ passing through on their journey south.

Hot, humid summers

The long, hot summers can be swelteringly humid, with an almost Caribbean air about the place at this time of year. Tropical air flows come in from the Bahamas and the Gulf of Mexico, bringing with them increased humidity. This is also the season with the highest rainfall, with August and September seeing the largest number of rainy days. Thunderstorms are also quite common at this time and there is a risk of hurricanes.
