Buffalo Leisure

There are many options available for those wanting to take part in sports or recreational activities. Columbus has several good parks which are ideal for gentle strolls and picnics. The city is also home to a number of professional sports teams that attract a huge following at their local matches.

Spectator sports

As with most American cities, Buffalo has its fair share of major spectator sports including professional hockey and football. The Buffalo Bills play just outside the city at Orchard Park, and The Sabres play downtown at the HSBC Centre, on Seymour Knox Plaza.

Skiing

The Buffalo region is home to some of the finest skiing in the northeast. The slopes here may not compare to the pristine snowfields in Colorado, but they are certainly worth taking advantage of if you enjoy skiing and are visiting during the winter.

In nearby Colden, the 700-acre resort at Kissing Bridge receives an annual average snowfall of 180 inches and has 36 snow-covered slopes. The resort can be reached in just 45 minutes by car from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Nearby, nestled into the southwestern corner of New York State, 90 miles from Buffalo, you'll find the Peek 'n' Peak Resort and Conference Centre. Peek 'n' Peak has 27 groomed slopes and trails serviced by eight chairlifts and two magic carpets. There are also miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Other nearby resorts include the family-oriented Tamarack, just up the road from Kissing Bridge, and Cockaigne, located 18 miles from Lake Erie, in Cherry Creek, New York. Cockaigne has a base elevation of 1,100 feet higher than the lake and receives a prodigious 275 inches of snow in an average winter.
