Buffalo Restaurants

Eating out in America may not be everyone’s idea of good cuisine, but Buffalo stands out compared to many of the cities in the northeast United States. The different immigrants that have settled here ensure that there is a good range of ethnic cuisine, so you should be able to find something that satisfies your taste buds. However, you may have to hunt a little bit harder than normal to find something worthwhile.

Where to eat

The city is home to the Buffalo-style chicken wing and roast beef on kimmelweck (or ‘weck’ for short). The chicken wing reigns supreme, and most restaurants carry it on their menus. Whether you're after a giant slice of pizza, a world-famous steakhouse or anything in between, you're sure to find it in downtown Buffalo. For a quick snack, the cheap food stalls and tiny cafés of the old Broadway Market are definitely worth trying.

The city centre has all the normal fast-food restaurants and international chains you would expect, although many of them can't be recommended. Fortunately, among all the unhealthy options, you'll also find that some of the renovations have brought about some excellent, upscale restaurants. Some of the better hotels have good restaurants and offer a range of international dishes.

You don't generally need to pre-book, unless you plan on eating at one of the better restaurants. A lot of places stay open late, so you'll always be able to find somewhere to eat if you have been to one of the city’s pubs or clubs. Prices are generally good value and portions are large. Tipping is expected.
