Boulder Weather

A visit to Boulder is enjoyable during any season. This mountain town gets every kind of weather possible, often at unexpected times of the year. Art and music festivals begin in May and continue through September, bringing with them the summer tourist crowd. Theres really no low season in Boulder, but the shoulder seasons are usually the quietest times to visit.

Capricious seasons

Even though it sits just outside the Rocky Mountains, at the very western edge of the Great Plains, Boulder experiences a typical mountain climate. The weather can change from one extreme to the other at any time of the year. Winter days can be mild and sunny, when you barely need a jacket, or a three-day blizzard can leave a metre of snow on the town.

Springtime, which runs from April to May, is particularly capricious, with warm days followed by snowstorms. Summers are generally quite warm, with consistent afternoon thunderstorms to rinse things off. Autumn is perhaps the finest season in Boulder, when crisp sunny days and perfectly cool nights are punctuated by the amazing display of leaves changing their colours on the mountainside.
