Be Safe in Boulder
Boulder prides itself on being a very safe city, and visitors shouldnt experience any problems related to safety or health here. But like any place, its best not to tempt fate by inviting easy theft through leaving bags or cameras unattended.
Safety
On the surface, Boulder seems like a utopia of middle-class prosperity and security, and for the most part, it is. But the same natural beauty, good weather and cultural hipness which attracts the wealthy also attracts a surprising number of transients. Take a stroll on The Hill and youll soon pass the packs of young, semi-homeless youngsters who panhandle for your spare change. Their aggressive nature can be annoying, but they are mostly harmless. A bigger concern are the more experienced transients who live along the Boulder Creek Path after dark. Even the locals dont advise walking along the path at night.
Health
The only health issue you should be concerned about is the intense Colorado sun, which often catches visitors by surprise. Boulder sits at a fairly high altitude, and on a bright sunny day, even in the winter, you can get sunburned quickly. If you venture higher into the mountains, be sure and wear sunscreen and a hat, and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.
Travel insurance
No matter how many precautions you take during your visit to Boulder, there is always the potential risk of an accident or a bit of misfortune. Theft can easily happen if you arent being careful with your belongings around the Pearl Street Mall and on The Hill. A little travel insurance goes a long way to ensure that you have peace of mind and a back-up should anything unfortunate occur. The cost is minimal compared to the price of getting stuck with no theft insurance.
Visitors to the United States should make sure they have comprehensive medical insurance before they travel. Medical costs in America can be incredibly expensive if something serious happens.
