Boston Weather

As with most other US cities on the east coast, there is abundant rainfall an average of 42 inches each year. The same amount of snowfall is recorded annually, as well. Massachusetts' coastline juts into the North Atlantic, making Boston prone to North easterly weather systems that leave heavy accumulations of snowfall in their wake. Summers are typically hot and humid.

Boston climate

Bostons climate has continental features, with hot summers and very cold winters. It can be subject to rapidly changing conditions all year, however, with large temperature variations occurring in the space of a couple of days - and unseasonable snowfalls have been experienced. Generally, summers are sunny, hot and humid, with July temperatures averaging 28 C. Winters in Boston are cold, wet and windy, with ice and snow accumulating. Theres an average of 42 inches of snow falling each year mostly during storms.

Best times to visit

As the winters are cold, and the summers can often be hot and humid, late spring and fall are the nicest times to visit Boston. The summer months are certainly worth considering, as the streets are alive with sidewalk cafs, and there are outdoor concerts, baseball games, and harbour cruises to enjoy. In the late spring or early fall, the weather is warm and pleasant and the tourist attractions arent as crowded. The fall is particularly beautiful, when the leaves on New Englands trees change to brilliant hues of red and gold. In the countryside surrounding Boston this can be a very busy time as large numbers of domestic tourists come to the area for the foliage.
