Boston is relatively small, so in choosing accommodation, neighbourhoods that border the centre city areas can also be considered as options. If you’re flexible enough, there shouldn’t be much difficulty finding a suitable place to stay - but it's still a good idea to reserve in advance. Between April and November, hotels are often full, as it is the time for conventions, college graduations and vacations for domestic tourists. Foliage season, from late September to late October, is typically the busiest - and priciest - time for accommodation.

Most major hotel chains are represented in the Boston area, including Starwood, Best Western, Holiday Inn, Howard Johnson, Radisson and Ramada. Luxury operators such as Fairmont, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Sonesta are also present here. What is the most difficult to find, in the city area, are moderately-priced options. Hotels that are mid-range or bargains elsewhere may be pricey here – particularly during busy times of the year. A bed-and-breakfast inn can be a good alternative, as you’ll most likely pay less and the accommodation is often more comfortable. Most B&Bs are located near public transportation.

If you arrived without a reservation and can't find accommodation, you can call the Hotel Hot Line, which is a service provided by the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau. The service is staffed weekdays until 22:00 and weekends until 16:00. Tel.: +1 800 777 6001.

Cambridge, across the Charles River from Boston, has its own attractions and excellent hotels. Due to the large number of university students, May and early June can be quite busy as it is the time for graduation ceremonies - so it is wise to plan ahead.
