Baltimore Leisure

Baltimore is a sports city, with baseball and football drawing the largest crowds. Horse racing fans will be at home here, while the city’s waterfront area has opportunities for enjoying the city’s shoreline from a different perspective.

Baseball and football

From April to October, you can watch the Baltimore Orioles baseball team play at Camden Yards. If you’re a sports fan and there's a game on during your visit, make sure you get a chance to enjoy one of these real Baltimore experiences (tel: +1 410 685 9800).

The Baltimore Ravens play football at the M&T Bank Stadium, adjacent to Camden Yards. Around 5,000 seats are sold per game, the rest already held by season ticket holders, with games being very popular with local fans. For information or tickets you can call: +1 410 261 RAVE; or visit: www.ravenszone.net.

Horse racing

For horse racing fans, Maryland's oldest track for thoroughbreds and the site of the annual Preakness Stakes is Pimlico Racecourse (tel: +1 410 542 9400; website: www.marylandracing.com). It’s in the city’s northwest, about five miles from the Inner Harbour. The season runs from April to September, and The Preakness, an important event in racing's Triple Crown, is held on the third Saturday in May.

Water activities

If you’d like to spend a little time on the water, there are paddle and electric boats available for hire, adjacent to the World Trade Centre. You can hire them by the half hour or longer, with trips offering a close-up view of the people and the happenings around the harbour. Opening hours vary according to season; it’s best to check directly at the pier.
