Where to stay

Many visitors choose to stay near the Inner Harbor, as it’s the most popular tourist destination in the city. If you’re interested in a luxury, waterfront option, the Harbor Court Hotel is a good choice. It’s built in the style of an English manor and is situated close to the city’s business district.

The Renaissance Harborplace Hotel is a few steps away from the Inner Harbor and features harbour-view rooms, a well-rated restaurant and a shopping mall. The Hyatt Regency Baltimore is also here, and has been a fixture in Baltimore for a number of years.

Fells Point is an appealing option for visitors who would like to stay in a neighbourhood with history. This is a waterfront community, located just to the east of the Inner Harbor and within an easy walk of the city's major attractions.

The Admiral Fell Inn is a reasonably-priced choice here, consisting of a series of centuries-old buildings. Although this isn’t a particularly fancy place, it is comfortable. For something a little more luxurious, you might try Celie's Waterfront Bed and Breakfast. Here, most of the guest rooms have either harbour views or overlook the inn's lovely landscaped gardens.

Pleasant alternatives

The Mt Vernon neighbourhood is a bit closer in, located just north of the city’s business district and within walking distance of both the Peabody Institute and the Walters Art Gallery, and is also a pleasant place to stay. The Inner Harbor is a short ride away, as is the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University.

This neighbourhood features many excellent hotels, restaurants and shops, amid some splendid examples of 19th century architecture. A less expensive option than staying at one of the hotels around the Inner Harbor is a stay at the newly-renovated Clarion Mount Vernon Square Hotel.

North Baltimore offers a quieter area for accommodation if you’d like to be reasonably close to the attractions, but want to avoid the city crowds. The Crosskeys Inn is set in park-like surroundings, quite close to a shopping centre and not all that far from everything that the city centre has to offer. The hotel has a free shuttle, providing transportation for guests to the Inner Harbor.
