Baltimore Restaurants
There’s just about every ethnic menu you could think of on offer here, and on top of this, the area is world-famous for its Chesapeake Bay cuisine. Baltimore's many international cuisines can be sampled in the city’s distinctive neighbourhoods, and seafood features at most restaurants around the Inner Harbour and waterfront areas.
Local cuisine
Baltimore is probably best-known for its mouth-watering crab cakes and other delicacies made from the blue crab. Local crab houses and seafood restaurants serve up specialities such as crab cakes, crab imperial, crab soufflés and soft-shell crab sandwiches for the enjoyment of locals and the area’s many visitors. Other Chesapeake Bay specialities include oysters, rockfish and scallops, which are always fresh and come served in variations that reflect the ethnic diversity of the city.
Where to eat
You can enjoy the local seafood specialties of Fells Point and the Inner Harbour; the authentic Mexican cuisine of Federal Hill; the Indian and Afghan specialties of Mt Vernon; or a Greek feast in Canton. Hampden offers traditional American fare and Little Italy boasts lots of pizzerias and pasta houses.
If you see the Port Discovery HiFlyer balloon, you’ve found Power Plant Live, a collection of chain restaurants drawing large crowds at dinnertime. This is just a short walk from the Inner Harbour. Nearby is Phillips Harbourplace, offering what is likely to be the city's most affordable seafood, and is a good choice for the whole family. The children's menu also includes non-seafood favourites such as burgers, French fries and fried chicken. Johnny Rockets is a retro 1950s-style diner featuring fun and affordable food. French fries, hamburgers and milk shakes are served at lightning-fast speed. You’ll find this eatery at Harbourplace's Light Street Pavilion.
Some other popular choices in the nearby neighbourhoods are also popular with families. Amicci's is a casual spot where you’ll find many families. There’s a wide range of pasta dishes on the menu. Café Hon is a Hampden eatery offering many types of American ‘comfort’ foods, and is a good choice for kids.
