Austin Leisure

Austin is proud of its reputation as a green city, with a beautiful park located at the heart of its downtown district. The park’s famous pools are popular among bathers and attract tourists and locals throughout the year. The city is also a national force in competitive sports, and there are excellent basketball and baseball teams at the University of Texas.

Barton Springs Pool and Zilker Park

Zilker Park is undoubtedly Austin's most popular leisure area, offering miles of hiking trails and pathways around Barton Springs. The springs maintain a consistent cool temperature year-round, providing some pleasant respite from the summer heat. The pools are fed from bay springs and the pool is over three times the length of a football field, offering great bathing and swimming in the heart of the city. There’s a small entrance fee, though you can stay all day if you like. Boat rental is also offered in the park, and a summer’s day spent gently rowing along the river in central Austin is an experience you won’t easily forget.

Mount Bonnell

Mount Bonnell is the highest point within the Austin city limits and stands at 785 feet. There are several trails on the slopes which are excellent for hiking or cycling. There are also wonderful views of the city from the summit, and the area is particularly popular on summer days.

University of Texas Longhorns

Austin is a university city and sports are an integral part of life in Texas. The University of Texas has strong basketball and baseball teams, and was home of the 2005 National Football Championships. Upcoming games are advertised in the local press and are well worth attending if you want to share the passion and excitement.
