What to see

It wouldn't be a proper visit to Atlantic City without strolling the worlds longest boardwalk at least once. If youre looking for some physical activity, you can always venture up the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse, the tallest in New Jersey, and check out the view from the top.

Families are sure to enjoy Donald Trumps Steel Pier near the Taj Mahal casino. Almost every funfair game ever invented can be found on the pier alongside great rides and tasty cotton-candy stalls. In addition to some truly historic rides, the pier has also been the site of some notable performances by famous artists, such as Frank Sinatra. If thats not interesting enough, Ripleys Believe It or Not Museum is full of freaky things from all over the world. The Atlantic City Convention Center has the worlds largest pipe organ with 33,112 pipes and offers some amazing sounds.

Daytrips

Smithville is the most popular daytrip from Atlantic City. The hour-long drive is pleasant and the town itself is a refreshing change from the glitz of the casinos in Atlantic City. With cobblestone walkways, a duck pond and a carousel, its almostas if you havestepped into the past.

Activities and leisure

These days, the casinos provide most of the entertainment in the city. In addition to gambling, there are also many Las Vagas-style performances on offer at the casinos, from comedies to magic shows.

Not many people come to Atlantic City for the surf, and the waters are often too cold for swimming, but there are several good beaches in the area including three surfing beaches. Jackson Avenue Beach is specifically designated for windsurfing and kayaking. Beach chairs are available for rent along the boardwalk, too, if you do decide to get outside and catch some sun.

Safety issues

As a casino town, Atlantic City does have its fair share of urban crime. Make good use of your hotel safe and be sure to lock your car. When possible, its a good idea to take advantage of the hotel or casino parking garage, as these premises are under surveillance.
