Be Safe in Atlantic City

Safety

,As a big casino town, Atlantic City is not devoid of urban crime, but sensible practices can prevent harm or loss. It’s advisable to use the casino parking garages when possible, as opposed to street parking, as most garages are under surveillance camera. Be sure not to leave objects in view in your car, as this opportunity for crime won’t be missed, even if it is just a couple of CDs or a shirt. It is always advisable to take all of your belongings into the hotel. As an added precaution, make use of hotel safes.

Bag-snatching and muggings are more common on the streets surrounding the beachfront casino resorts, although this area has been greatly cleaned up in the past decade. Still, muggings can happen anywhere and it is best to stick to brightly lit paths or venture to the next casino by boardwalk or jeepney. Always be cautious of pickpockets, even on the well-patrolled casino floors. It can get crowded in the casinos. Likewise, be mindful of your casino chips and cheques; don’t get so carried away at the table that you don’t notice a hand slip away from the rail with a few of your blacks and greens.

Health

Health concerns in Atlantic City are few and all casino hotels are equipped with first aid kits, usually including defibrillators, and trained staff. Most casino hotels have gift shops that carry common over-the-counter medicine and several pharmacies are located within a block or two of the beachfront casinos, on Pacific and Atlantic avenues. Should you need extensive care, Atlantic City Medical Center, at 1925 Pacific avenue, is a thoroughly modern, professional and well-equipped facility.
