Atlanta Leisure

Atlanta is a city with a rich sporting history and is home to America’s oldest on-campus division one football stadium, the Bobby Dodd Stadium. This has been an integral part of the city’s sporting scene since it was first built in 1913. The city’s sporting profile was raised significantly in 1996 when it played host to the Olympic Games and has since enjoyed a higher status in the sporting world and an increase in tourism.

Football, baseball and basketball

Several major league sport teams are based in the city of Atlanta. The Atlanta Braves represent the city in the Baseball league. They formed in 1841 and their huge popularity is owed much to the success they have enjoyed over the last decade. Home games are exceptionally well attended and many visitors to the city snap up the opportunity to see such high profile games. The Atlanta Falcons American football team have represented the city since 1966, winning the division title three times. They are equally popular with residents and with visitors, who flock to the Georgia Dome to watch home fixtures.  Finally, the Atlanta Hawks basketball team have been the city’s home team since 1969 and while the team has only won the NBA Championship once, they are still an important part of the city’s culture.
