Getting To Atlanta

Atlanta is well served by the Georgia road network and by various public transportation systems, making it a highly accessible city. Major highways connect the city with the greater Georgia area and beyond with easy routes available from Alabama, Tennessee, Augusta and Savannah. Connections by air, road and rail provide quick and easy access to the city.  

By car

If you are driving to Atlanta from the south, you need to take the I-75 which leads directly to the city. To arrive from destinations in the north, you need to follow the I-75 south. From the east, highway 278 leads into Atlanta while from the west, you need to travel along highways 411 and 78.

By rail

Amtrak provides rail services from an extensive number of US destinations to Atlanta.  It is a comfortable and convenient way to travel into the city with far prices at reasonable rates, depending on where you are travelling from.

By bus

America’s ever popular Greyhound Bus Company provides coach services between a large number of major US cities and the city of Atlanta. These are a cheaper alternative to rail travel but do offer a comfortable service.

By air

Situated 10 miles from downtown Atlanta, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International is a dual terminal facility offering flights to regional, national and international cities with the final category covering a vast number of destinations and contributing significantly to the airport’s reputation as the world’s busiest passenger airport. Once at the airport, passengers will find extensive facilities inside the terminal plus a varied selection of parking options.

Atlanta: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Hailed as the world’s busiest passenger air facility, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International operates two terminals with a total of seven concourses. Concourses A through to D plus Concourse T and the Atrium concourse are responsible for handling the airport’s 80 million plus annual passengers. Movement between the concourses is possible by using a travelator system. The North Terminal handles the bulk of air traffic and the majority of airlines, the South Terminal serves just a handful of airlines.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport transportation

A rapid rail service operated by MARTA connects the airport with downtown Atlanta with a journey time of just 15 minutes. Trains operate regularly throughout the day.

Passengers requiring taxis can book them from the Ground Transportation Centre in Island A, or, alternatively, shared shuttle services are available to agreed destinations and can be booked from the Ground Transportation Centre in Island B.
