Aspen Weather

Tucked away in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, Aspen has a true alpine environment. This means long cold, snowy winters and short, brilliant summers. In between you will find the rebirth of spring, with melting snow and budding leaves, and the glorious autumn, when the mountainsides explode in a frenzy of colour.

Winter

Winter begins in earnest in November, when most ski resorts open their slopes, and runs until April. Daytime temperatures hover around 2°C and drop well below freezing at night. However, Colorado usually sees a blue sunny sky which helps to warm the air. April and May are aptly named the mud season, as melting snow creates muddy conditions in the mountains.

Summer

Summer arrives in June and lasts about three months. Daytime temperatures range from 23°C - 26°C during the day, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but nights remain quite cool. September and October herald the arrival of autumn with crisp blue skies and pleasant temperatures. Except for the spring mud season, there’s no bad time to visit Aspen. It really depends on what outdoor activity interests you most.
