Things to do in Tijuana
Tijuana boasts a colourful mix of cultures and traditions that are evident at the many tourist attractions around the city. There is something for everyone here including cultural centres, museums, parks and cathedrals, so you can be sure that a trip to Tijuana will be a worthwhile and memorable event.
Tijuana Cultural Centre
Also known as CECUT, Tijuana Cultural Centre is the citys cultural symbol, providing a variety of arts that reflect Tijuanas diverse culture and the Mexican Northwests culture as a whole. Boasting painting, photography and sculpture exhibitions, the centre also offers visitors occasional plays and ballet performances alongside many artistic festivals. Inside, you will be amazed at the spectacular displays in the Northern Centre of Scenic Arts and you will have a chance to explore the art gallery, outdoor theatre, museum and bookstore, which is packed with both art-related and general books.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral
The oldest church in the city, Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral opened in 1902 and turned into a cathedral in 1964. Reflecting beautiful architecture, the cathedral is on Avenida Revolucin, the main tourist spot of Tijuana, where you can also see the oldest building in Tijuana which is now host to an HSBC bank.
Jai-Alai Building
Those who want to observe one the most important buildings in Tijuana and also one of the most exciting sport games should visit Jai-Alai, the historic building devoted to Jai-Alai, the citys famous Basque ball game. The building is located on Avenida Revolucin between Seventh and Eighth Streets, and welcomes a great number of tourists and locals to witness the fastest ball game in the world.
Wax Museum (Museo de Cera)
Another interesting site to visit, the Wax Museum showcases more than 80 replicas of historic idols of Mexico and celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Laurel and Hardy, and Bill Clinton. If you are up for getting spooked, head to the Chamber of Horrors where you can find scary wax werewolves and creepy, sinister sadists lurking in the shadows.
Bullfight rings
Bullfights in Tijuana are held every Sunday in the summer. Those who do not appreciate the fights can explore the famous bullfighting rings off-season to admire the architectural beauty and interesting history of the sport. There are two rings in Tijuana which were built in the 1920s as well as the Sea Ring, located next to Tijuana's coast and close to the border. The Bullfight in Tijuana was built to mark the citys tourism growth, while the Sea Ring is a good example of Mexican classical modern architecture.
Jose Maria Morelos Park
With an exceptional location, the Morelos Park is considered the greatest ecological reserve in the city, boasting extensive green areas, a lake and botanic gardens. Located in the park you will find Tijuana's only open-air theatre for concerts and shows, with a capacity for 40,000 people. Children will also love the park as there are kiosks for childrens parties, a fun train, cooking areas and soda stands.
