Cancun Weather

For the majority of the year, Cancun experiences excellent weather. Temperatures usually reach their highest in June, with storms cooling temperatures throughout the summer months.

Winter

The winter months usually offer cooler weather for Cancun. Temperatures are not too hot, usually averaging 26°C, with cool sea breezes. Winter sees the end of the hurricane season, with the winter months occasionally being used to recover after the aftermath of a devastaing hurricane. This is a good time to visit, when temperatures are bearable and enjoyable.

Summer

Hurricanes are a major threat to the city throughout the summer months. Major hurricanes are rare, but do occur, such as Hurrican Wilma, which hit in 2005, leaving much of the island destitue for almost a year. In June, temperatures can occassionally soar to highs of 36°C, but they rarely reach these highs in the peak summer months of July and August. Throughout the summer, humidity is often low due to the cooling sea breezes from the Caribbean Sea.

Spring/autumn
Autumn sees the continual threat of hurricanes, with the hurricane season lasting until about November. If you decide to visit during hurricane season, you must be prepared for tropical storms, meaning that you could be locked inside your hotel room if the winds reach dangerously high speeds.

Spring sees temperatures gradually rise until the peak in June. Spring is a good time to visit, as there is no threat of hurricanes and the resort is generally quieter than at other peak times.
