Cancun Restaurants
A traditional Cancun dining experience starts late and ends even later. Many people eat lunch and then have a siesta in the afternoon, so they are just starting to wake up in the early evening. There is an enormous array of dining establishments on offer and many places at which to enjoy a drink after dinner. It won’t be long before you’re dancing the night away after feasting on traditional Mexican cuisine.
Local cuisine
Traditional Mayan cuisine includes chicken dishes, spiced pork and rabbit. Staple foods include: beans, corn and peppers, with seafood being commonly served at dinner time. It is possible to sample everything from lobster to sea snail. Popular fish dishes include: el tikinxic (barbequed fish prepared Mayan style) and pan de cazon (shredded shark baked in a tomato sauce and served on a tortilla).

If you are staying at a hotel in the hotel zone, you will not be short of good restaurants on your doorstep. Many of the top hotels offer a choice of more than one excellent restaurant. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the hotel zone, chain restaurant El Tizoncito has franchises across the city and El Tacotorro is a favourite among locals, offering deicous food at very reasonable prices.
Avenue Kohunlich in the centre of the city has an extensive selection of restaurants including taco bars, grill bars, continental restaurants and traditional Mexican eateries. The beach is the place to head for if you enjoy seafood. As well as traditional Mayan and Mexican cuisine, Cancun is home to over 500 restaurants, so whatever your taste and budget, you will be sure to find something to suit your tastes.
