Acapulco Leisure
Acapulco is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. From swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving to parasailing (invented in Acapulco), jet-skiing and of course, cliff diving, water lovers can enjoy it here. For land rats, watching a bullfight will provide plenty of excitement.
Fishing
Acapulco is not as famous for its sport fishing as many other Mexican resorts. However, that does not mean that the fishing here is not amazing. Depending on the season, all of the same fish that are caught in Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta or Zihuatanejo can also be found in Acapulco. Sport fishing in Acapulco was promoted heavily when Acapulco was known as Hollywood south, as the movie stars that flocked here always returned with lots of photos of their prize catches. Sport fishing has slowly taken a back seat to Acapulco's status as a party town, but the fishing here can be very rewarding.
Plaza de Toros bullfights
The Acapulco bullfighting ring is a smaller version of the one in Mexico City, but its audience is just as loud and colourful. Bullfights are held every Sunday and usually run from late December or January to March or April. Make sure to buy a ticket in the shade. Most people buy their ticket directly at the ticket office, but you can buy it in advance from travel agents and some hotels in Golden Acapulco. As a rule, three men will face three bulls in a ritual killing that dates back several centuries; the fighters wear costumes originating from Spanish street wear of the 16th and 17th centuries. The fights in Acapulco are novilladas, meaning that the bulls are between three and four years old and weigh no more than 450 kilograms.
