Winnipeg Weather

Winnipeg has a cold, continental climate, with a short, very warm summer and a long, cold winter. There are significant temperature variations throughout the year, generally ranging from highs of 35°C to lows of -40°C.

Sun, rain and snow

The city is the sunshine capital of Canada, with over 2,300 hours of sun annually. One fifth of Winnipeg's precipitation is snow, which starts falling in October and can last until May. June is the wettest month for rain and July is the hottest month.

Winter

Located in Southern Manitoba, Winnipeg endures very cold and on occasions, rather brutal winter temperatures. Canadians in other provinces sometimes jokingly call it ‘Winterpeg’, Manitoba. Despite the cold weather, Winnipeg's skies are among the clearest in Canada and Winnipeg enjoys lots of sunny weather year-round. Snow depths of more than one centimetre are seen on about 132 days each year in Winnipeg, compared to about 65 days in Toronto.
