Whistler Restaurants
Whistler has a wonderful variety of restaurants to suit every palate and budget. Eateries include everything from local delis, pubs, cafés and bistros to fine dining establishments with world famous chefs. Evening dress in Whistler is 'resort casual', meaning dressing up for dinner is perfectly acceptable, but not required. During peak times at the resort, it is recommended that you make a reservation for dinner in advance.
Local cuisine
It's not surprising that Whistler's reputation for health and fitness extends to its local cuisine. Locally-produced, fresh organic food is easily found at many of Whistler's plentiful restaurants, with cuisines ranging from Thai to the region's own Pacific West Coast specialties. Visitors will find sports bars; snacks, pizza, burger and pasta places; seafood joints and lots of different ethnic selections, from sushi to Italian. A few restaurants, such as Araxi and Umberto, feature superb haute cuisine with a north-western twist.
Most restaurants can be found at Whistler Village, with a few located in Upper Village near or at the Chateau Whistler Hotel. The mountain restaurants can be praised for their great choice, but they generally don’t win any Michelin stars. At resort level, there is a fine choice of Italian, Japanese and Chinese food. For an intimate dining experience, La Rua is romantic without being hugely expensive. Lower budget Carumba is a favourite with the locals and it always has a lively, friendly atmosphere.
Where to eat
Don’t miss breakfast at the Roundhouse. Have the full Canadian Monty and wait for the ski patrol to drop the ropes around the restaurant. Dozens of free riders then descend the mountain to get the first face shots in feet of fresh powder; a great adrenalin rush.
