Vancouver Restaurants
With Vancouver’s huge population, many of whom originate from European climbs, there is a very flexible restaurant scene here, with all cuisines represented and the quality of food being impressive. The other great things about dining out in Vancouver is the relative low cost of food and the fact that the city is surrounded by water, meaning a real treat for lovers of fresh fish and seafood.
Local cuisine
Vancouver has its very own cuisine, known as Pacific Northwestern, where the sheer number of cooking methods, together with the local selection of fresh ingredients, has culminated in a distinctive offering of foods. Some of the specialities of the region include crab, scallops and sablefish, yet you will find virtually any type of dish you can think of. Apart from Pacific Northwestern cuisine, Vancouver’s influx of immigrants from all over Asia and Europe has culminated in a massive offering of all kinds of tastes. Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai restaurants are here in their numbers, as are French, Greek, Italian, Spanish and Mexican dining establishments.
Where to eat
As with any North American city, there is the usual collection of fast-food chains in all areas of Vancouver including McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell. The distinctive dining areas of the city are the downtown area, especially Robson, Howe, and Granville streets; and Gastown; Chinatown; and Little Italy, just to the east of downtown.
