Quebec City Weather

With its location in the upper reaches of Canada, Quebec City maintains a fairly cold climate throughout most of the year. The brief but warm summer months do a lot to thaw the general mood which comes with the cold, damp winter weather. However, if you enjoy winter, then this is the place for you.

Summer and winter

Summer is the most popular time of year in Quebec City. The temperatures are warm and sunny enough to enjoy the outdoors and many of the best festivals happen between June and September. Yet, even at the height of summer, nights can be rather cool. June through October are the only months when you can depend on the city being free of snow.

Quebec City gets an average of four metres of snowfall each year, falling as late as May. Temperatures drop well below freezing from late November to early April, so come prepared if you visit during these months. On the up side, winter brings dependable snow for skiing and other fun, winter activities. The city also hosts a wonderful Winter Carnival in February to help ease the mid-winter doldrums.

The window of opportunity

To really experience Quebec City at its finest, visit during the glorious autumn months in September and October. The Canadian maple trees blaze with colour for weeks on end and the skies are often dazzling blue. Spring is even briefer, but also very pleasant, from the middle of May to early June.
