Be Safe in Niagara
Considered a very safe place to travel to, Niagara is relatively harmless if you dont plan to go over the falls in a barrel or cross them on a tightrope. Dont laugh, as these things happen and there have been many reports of these daredevil escapades.
Safety
It is mandatory for all drivers to wear seat belts at all times. And you must remember to carry your vehicle registration form from your state government with you as evidence that you are the owner of your vehicle. Those who rent a car should also have documentation from the legal owner and the rental agreement with you when youre on the road.
Those with a car should pay extra attention to road signs when driving uphill. Study the road etiquette carefully and thoroughly if you arent familiar with how to drive the Canadian way.
Another important thing that you need to be aware of is that Canada uses the metric system for weights and measures, so American drivers might find it tricky to interpret the signs of speed limits, distances and fuel prices.
Pick-pocketing is common in busy and crowded areas around the falls, so be on your guard and take good care of your belongings. Leave your valuable items at the hotel. If you have children travelling with you, dont leave them unattended, as you never know if they will wander around on their own to the borders of the falls, and there only fairly low railings separating visitors from the water of the falls.
Health
There are few health issues for visitors to worry about during their trip to Niagara. The tap water is safe to drink and the risks of getting sick here are low. However, if you plan to visit in the winter, take extra care to wrap up warm as temperatures can drop below freezing, and exercise caution when walking outside; it can be easy to slip on the ice.
The Visitor and Convention Bureau can provide useful phone numbers in case of emergency. Should you have a medical emergency, Niagaras healthcare facilities are excellent and there are pharmacies across the town.

Travel insurance
Because you might not be on your guard at all times on your relaxing vacation, taking out travel insurance for you and your family is the best way to stay safe. Insurance companies will arrange instant holiday insurance with full cover for all your travel needs.
The length of your stay in Niagara Falls can be accommodated through short-term and long-term travel insurance, or even annual insurance. If you plan to join in particular sports and activities, you can choose an insurance package that will cover against the risks that you might encounter during your adventurous journey, including coverage for winter sports, golf and scuba diving.
