Getting to Niagara

One of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, Niagara is easily accessible by air, rail and road. The most convenient way to travel to Niagara is by air, as Niagara is close to three international airports.

By air

The closest airports to Niagara are Buffalo Niagara International Airport in New York State, USA; and John Munro International Airport and Lester Pearson International Airport in Ontario, Canada (with shuttle services between the three).

Buffalo Niagara International Airport is located 14kms to the east of Buffalo and receives many international flights from all over the world. The facilities for passengers include a post office, restaurants, business centre, public telephones, childrens play area, newsagents, gift shops and a gallery, which is located on the upper level of the terminal.

The airport is disabled friendly and its business centre is fully-equipped with bureaux de change, fax, photocopying and computer facilities as well as internet access and a conference room.

John Munro International Airport is located on Mount Hope, Hamilton, Ontario. A much smaller airport than Buffalo Niagara International Airport, John Munro International Airport services a number of flights from all over the world, while the facilities for passengers are quite limited, with a few restaurants, bank services, parking pay stations and car rental counters.

Lester Pearson International Airport is located 27kms northwest of Toronto and is the nearest Canadian international airport to Niagara Falls. Offering extensive facilities for passengers including a business centre, a counseling service and medical emergency clinics, this airport is the most comprehensive of the three, and the most popular choice among visitors travelling onwards to Niagara.

You can find taxis, buses and limousine services serving all airports. Travellers who want to hire cars for their own driving pleasure can also find car rental outlets located at these airports.

By rail

Travelling by train is an alternative way to visit Niagara. Travellers will be given an opportunity to observe exquisite countryside along the way to their destination. Rail service is provided twice daily from Toronto to Niagara Falls Rail Station on Bridge Street (via St Catherines, Grimsby, Aldershot and Oakville with VIA RIAL) and from New York (via Niagara Falls New York, Buffalo-Exchange, Buffalo-Dick Road, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, Schenectady and Albany-Troy with AMTRAK).

By bus

The easiest way to get to Niagara by road is to use the bus service. Bus services are provided by Trentway Wager (Coach Canada) and Greyhound Lines of Canada. The Niagara Falls Coach Terminal is conveniently located at the corner of Bridge Street and Erie, in downtown Niagara. There are three lines operating to Niagara, which are the Hamilton/Niagara line, the Niagara/Toronto line and the Niagara Falls/Buffalo line.

By car

Many visitors choose to drive to Niagara, giving them the option of stopping en-route. Cars can be hired at any of the three nearest international airports to Niagara, while Buffalo, Toronto and Hamilton provide many rental outlets. Cars can also be hired in Niagara itself.
