Halifax Weather

Halifax, located in the province of Nova Scotia, is practically a peninsula and as a result, the proximity of the sea bears a big influence on the weather conditions in this area.

Pleasant springs and cool summers

Spring is a pleasant time to visit Halifax, as it can be quite warm during the day. There is usually a lot of fog in spring, which only dissipates in early summer. This is what the locals call the sea fog.

The summers are quite cool, averaging at about 22C, but night temperatures may dip to about 11C. It also rains occasionally in summer, making it wise to pack some waterproof clothing including some warm clothes.

Sunny autumns and snowy winters

Autumn is one of the best times to visit Halifax, as the evenings and nights are cool and the days are fairly warm. September and October are the sunniest months of the year in Halifax. However, the weather is quite unpredictable and as the winds begin to shift direction, they bring with them rain and snow. Again, it is best to bring some long sleeved warm clothing and definitely an umbrella.

In the winter, it snows in Halifax and in January, the city is blanketed under a layer of snow. There is usually about four to seven inches of snow cover in the area, and the city experiences cold blustery winds. Ice and fog are also typical in winter. At night, the temperature usually dips below zero and during the day, it hovers around 1C.
