Jerusalem Leisure
Jerusalem’s pleasant climate and low humidity mean that the practice of outdoor sports is possible all year. Football is the city’s main sport, but basketball has also grown in popularity over the years. The city also offers some excellent shopping, especially for those interested in local crafts and religious paraphernalia.
Football and basketball
Football is the city’s leading sport, and the two major teams in the city are the yellow Beitar Jerusalem FC and the red Hapoel Jerusalem FC. Beitar is in the premier league and has won the national cup five times. Hapoel is currently in the second league, though the club also won the cup back in 1973. In basketball, Hapoel has performed well, however, having won the European ULEB cup in 2004. Visitors can enjoy most of the major basketball games by booking a seat at the Strauss Arena.

Shopping
Jerusalem has some excellent shopping, with jewellery, art and religious souvenirs being the most popular purchases. There are several shopping districts including the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, the colourful Arab Bazaar, or Souk, and the city centre area. Prices are generally fixed in the Jewish quarter and the city centre, though bargaining is possible on higher end jewellery and art. However, you should be cautious when buying gold, silver and gems in any part of the city, as the uninitiated are at risk of paying over the odds.
