Things to do in Eilat

The city of Eilat's main attraction is its beautiful golden beaches and warm sea, but there are also many other places and attractions to visit in this fascinating city. Visitors to Eilat will not be disappointed with the range of activities that can be enjoyed here.

Dolphin Reef

This is a private beach that offers many services and facilities including a lovely restaurant, diving courses, bathroom and shower facilities, and much more. The real appeal of the beach is the lagoon, in which dolphins swim. After a small tutorial by the dolphin crew, visitors are allowed to swim with the dolphins under the watchful eye of the crew.

Timna Park

The park is located to the north of Eilat Town and is very convenient to get to by car, scheduled day tour or bus. The park offers incredible desert landscapes, strange rock formations, archaic copper mines and ancient remains from the Egyptians who worked at the mines hundreds of years ago. There are also ancient caves and tunnels, some of which have drawings of men on chariots in battle. The remains of a temple, a lake fed by a pump and a Bedouin tent that serves drinks are just some of the interesting places to explore while you are at the park.

Well of Drops (Ein Netafin)

Ein Netafin was once nothing but a dry basin that had been dug out by the British. Over the years however, the basin began to fill, drop by drop, and became a pool. Today, Ein Netafin is a watering hole for wildlife in the area including rabbits, gazelles, flocks of birds and many other animals. Visitors arriving here early in the morning will have an opportunity to watch the animals quench their thirst.

Underwater Observatory

There are less than 10 observatories like this in the world, and a visit here should not be missed. The spiral staircase at the observatory leads visitors down below the water level, allowing them to view the marine life in the natural coral reefs. There are a myriad of fish with spectacular colours, shapes and sizes which can be viewed here. The observatory also has shark and turtle pools, a cafeteria and a small souvenir shop. Visitors can take a ride on a yellow submarine for an extra fee.

Beaches

There are several beautiful beaches to enjoy the warmth of the sun and the cool waters of the sea in Eliat. Village Beach is where the yuppie crowd hang out until the early hours of the morning, partying and dancing on the beach. Reef Beach, on the northern side, offers lots of water activities and gets quite crowded during the tourist season. Princes Beach, good for snorkelling and diving, is a quieter beach located on the southern side of Eilat. Coral Beach Reserve is a favourite with divers because of the unspoilt coral reefs that are teeming with all sorts of fish.

Kings City

This is a biblical theme park that sits at the end of the promenade, near the Eastern Lagoon. The theme park took four years to build and is flashy and interesting. Visitors can travel back in time to the era of King Solomon and take a cruise through King Solomons halls; walk through the Cave of Illusions, which has giant mazes; create a hologram; and go through a 360 metre long cave that has been carved into the rock. There are interactive displays, 3D and 4D movies, and much more at this park including a huge food complex and retail outlets.
