Eilat Entertainment
Eilat is a beautiful city, blessed by nature with beautiful beaches, wonderful scenery and pleasant weather. In the evenings, a walk by the promenade, a drink at a bar, dining at one of the many restaurants or dancing are just some of the entertainment options that are available.
Eating out
Right in the centre of the hotel district, near the lagoon, are many restaurants, bars, cafs and nightclubs serving all sorts of tasty dishes and cuisine from many parts of the world including Hong Kong, China, Egypt and America.
The range of establishments ensures there is something to suit all budgets and taste buds. Lotus is a Chinese restaurant that serves moderately-priced food cooked in large woks or steamed, while Au Bistro serves delicious French cuisine. Although Eddies Hide-away is not in the hotel district but instead is located in one of the older, more residential areas, it is very popular with tourists.
Local cuisine
In the past, Israeli food was clearly divided into two categories: Ashkenazic from the Jewish immigrants from Europe and Sephardic from the Jewish people in Middle Eastern countries. Nowadays, the two have combined and have also been influenced by the Spanish and Germans.
The bagel, served with cream cheese and smoked salmon, has been part of Jewish cuisine for more than 400 years. Matzah ball soup is a light chicken broth that is easily available at many restaurants in Israel. Chloent, usually served in winter, is another popular Israeli dish that is similar to a slow-cooked stew of beans, beef, barley and usually potatoes. Blintzes are very thin and light pancakes, rolled around a filling of sour cream or apple sauce.
Theatre and music
Music of all sorts is very important in Eilat, and the city has its own Youth Symphony Orchestra. The city also hosts the Red Sea Jazz Festival and the Eliat Oriental Dance Festival. The dance festival is usually held at the beginning of the year and brings together talented dancers from many parts of the world.
Shopping
Eilat is a Duty Free Zone, so shoppers will surely delight in making purchases here. There are many shopping malls here as well as smaller, more exclusive boutiques. On Thursdays, there is a market in the plaza of the city centre with stalls selling souvenirs, arts and crafts and much more.
