Getting to York
Visitors to York can choose from a wide range of options for travelling to the city. The nearest airport is in Leeds to the west, 45 minutes away. Leeds Bradford Airport provides convenient connections to several domestic and European destinations. The city is connected by the UKs extensive railway network and good road conditions make for easy access for coaches and private vehicles.
By car
Driving north on the M1 or A1 will take you to the A64 intersection. From here, the city is only 15 minutes away by dual carriageway. Travelling south on the A1, also exit the motorway at the A64. From the west on the M62, join the M1 to the north until you reach the intersection with the A64. York is also linked by the A19, A166 and A1079 routes.
By rail
York is served by the extensive National Rail network, providing connections to destinations all over the UK. The trip to London takes 4 hours, while from Manchester the journey can be made in 2 hours 10 minutes. From Newcastle it takes 1 hour 10 minutes. York Station is located on Station Road. By air
Leeds Bradford International Airport is located 11 miles to the north-west of central Leeds, 7 miles north of Bradford and is only 31 miles from York city centre. This airport is a busy facility handling domestic and charter airport flights, as well as some international flights to key European cities. Providing good public transport connections, Leeds Airport has first-rate connections to York city centre, which can be reached by train, coach and bus.

Leeds Bradford International Airport offers regular services to several domestic cities as well as European destinations, including Paris, Amsterdam and Barcelona. The airport operates a single terminal on two floors, from which all arrivals and departures are dealt with. Check-in and arrivals are on the ground floor, while the departure lounge is on the first floor. Facilities at the airport include restaurants, currency exchange, a childs play area, duty free and retail outlets. The information desk is located in the centre of the ground floor.
York airport transportation
Buses depart from Leeds Bradford International Airport to Leeds all through the day. The Airlink Bus Service 757 operates a service to Leeds City Railway Station and Bus Station every 30 minutes during peak times and hourly at other times. From Leeds Train Station, several trains depart for York every hour with a travelling time of 50 minutes. First Bus will begin a non-stop hourly coach service between York Train Station and Leeds Bradford Airport from 26th February 2007. If you travel by car from Leeds Airport, get on the A6120 Ring Road, clearly signposted from the airport, and exit onto the A64 to York. The distance is 31 miles.
