Getting to Weymouth
Visitors to Weymouth can choose from a wide range of options for travelling to the city. The nearest airport is Bournemouth International Airport, providing convenient connections to several domestic and European destinations; regular ferries sail to the Channel Islands; the city is linked by the UKs extensive railway network and good road conditions make for easy access for coaches and private vehicles.
By air
Bournemouth International Airport is located 36 miles east of Weymouth. It offers regular flights to many UK and European destinations, including Glasgow, Alderney, Amsterdam and Madrid. Buses connect Bournemouth Airport with the Travel Interchange where you can transfer to Bournemouth train station or the National Express. The airport offers excellent traveller facilities, including restaurants and duty free shopping facilities.
By car
Weymouth is easily reachable by way of a number of motorways from destinations all over the UK. The A354 heads out of the city in a northern direction towards Salisbury and on to London. Travelling east or west, take the same A354 towards Dorchester, which branches out south of that city to the west in the direction of Bridport and east towards Bournemouth. Heading south, the A354 reaches Fortuneswell on the Isle of Portland, where it terminates.
By rail
Weymouth is served by the extensive National Rail network, providing connections to destinations all over the UK. The trip to Southampton takes 1 hour 40 minutes, while from Plymouth the journey can be made in around four hours. From London, it takes 2 hours 50 minutes. By ferry
Condor Ferries serves Weymouth with regular services to and from Jersey and Guernsey in the Channel Islands, as well as St Malo in France. The journey from Jersey takes 3 hours 50 minutes, while from Guernsey it takes just two hours. Coming from St Malo in France, the crossing can be made in 5 hours 15 minutes with a stop in either Jersey or Guernsey. The sea port is located on The Quay. Bournemouth International Airport
The airport consists of a single terminal and check-in-desks are located just inside the main entrance. The Arrivals hall is to be found on the right of the terminal building. A currency exchange is on hand in the terminal as well as a post-box. Other facilities include a baby changing room located to the right of the main entrance and a childrens play area. Shopping can be done at WH Smith (newsagent) and the Zone shop, which sells a range of products from perfumes to toys. A duty-free shop is also available after security in the Departures lounge. The Food Village self-service restaurant serves an excellent range of hot and cold food and drinks, including a full English breakfast. The fully air-conditioned airside conservatory is home to the Bar Des Voyageurs, which provides impressive airside views and a pleasant environment in which to relax before your journey.
Weymouth airport transportation
Regular buses serve Bournemouth Airport, linking it with the Travel Interchange where passengers can transfer to Bournemouth Train Station or the National Express and Flight Link services. Alternatively, airport approved taxis meet all arriving flights. From Bournemouth train station, regular rail services depart for Weymouth, taking 55 minutes. Buses depart several times a day and make the trip to Weymouth in 1 hour 20 minutes. For those who choose to hire a car, leave the airport and turn left, head up the A338 towards London and exit the roundabout on the A31 destined for Poole. From Poole, take the A352 heading for Dorchester, then exit south onto the A353 for the last bit to Weymouth. The journey should take just under one hour.
