Weymouth Transport
It is safe and easy to explore Weymouth on foot and most attractions are within easy reach. Exploring the surrounding area is easy via signposted coastal walks; contact the Tourist Information Office for further information. An extensive public transport network gives access to the many local attractions and popular sights. During the summer months, a land train operates along the Weymouth Esplanade.
By bus
First Southern National operates bus services in Weymouth city centre as well as further out in the suburbs and all the way to Dorchester to the north and Portland Bill on the peninsula to the south. The main bus station is located at Kings Monument on The Esplanade. Return tickets are not available, but you can buy a day ticket which often proves to be cheaper as you can use an unlimited variety of buses for the day. A number of the bus-stops dont have timetables posted, so it is difficult to guess when a bus will come. However, leaflets of the routes and schedules are available at the Weymouth Tourist Information Centre on The Esplanade.
Taxis
Taxis are widely available in Weymouth, but in the evening prices can increase drastically. During this time, not only are taxis very expensive, but also slow due to heavy demand. During the daytime, buses and walking can be much more efficient. Some established local taxi operators include: 6600 Radio Taxis (tel: +44 1305 786 600), Bee-Cars (tel: +44 1305 781 212) and Weytax Radio Cabs (tel: +44 1305 783 636).
Tourist services
The Weymouth Seafront Land Train offers a panoramic ride along the Weymouth Esplanade to Lodmoor. Services start from the Tourist Information Centre, located close to the town centre. This popular service runs daily between Easter and the end of September. It is suitable for the whole family and has facilities for wheelchairs.
From the airport
Regular buses serve Bournemouth Airport, linking it with the Travel Interchange where passengers can transfer to Bournemouth Train Station or the National Express and Flight Link services. Alternatively, airport approved taxis meet all arriving flights. From Bournemouth train station, regular rail services depart for Weymouth, taking 55 minutes. Buses depart several times a day and make the trip to Weymouth in 1 hour 20 minutes. For those who choose to hire a car, leave the airport and turn left, head up the A338 towards London and exit the roundabout on the A31 destined for Poole. From Poole, take the A352 heading for Dorchester, then exit south onto the A353 for the last bit to Weymouth. The journey should take just under one hour.
