A quiet drink in one of the pubs along the harbour side or in Hope Square is a good way to kick off the evening before taking in a show at the Pavilion theatre or a film at the multiplex cinema. Alternatively, you can dance the night away in one of the towns numerous nightclubs.

Nightlife

Weymouth is home to a number of bars, clubs and entertainment venues catering to everyones needs and tastes. The town boasts a vibrant and exciting atmosphere, with a string of bars and clubs in the town centre. Serious clubbers, impoverished students or those with a more mature taste in search of an intimate and relaxed atmosphere are all well provided for here. Kiva and Verdis are just two of the very popular clubs and play a variety of dance, rock, chart, commercial dance, indie, garage, trip hop and house music from the 80s, 90s and recent releases. Those who dont fancy a night of frenetic clubbing should perhaps check out one of the several wine bars. Harrys Bar is a good place to chill out, with a good selection of wines, ales, lagers and hot food. The popular Players is a favourite venue for chilling out. The Malibu Club offers an exciting and fun-filled atmosphere, playing a great variety of music styles.

Theatre and music

The Weymouth Pavilion Theatre seats 993 spectators, and offers the best in all-round live entertainment, featuring celebrity shows, talent contests, comedy, music festivals, musical theatre, pantomime and childrens shows. A toilet accessible by wheelchair is located in the Foyer nearby the auditorium. Spaces and seats for the disabled are available and there is a lowered counter at the Box Office. Guide dogs are welcome. The Green Room Caf Bar offers spectacular views across the beach and the harbour and The Sundeck Lounge and adjacent Crows Nest provide an assortment of audio visual presentation equipment, making it a perfect venue for business meetings. These rooms also feature a fully licensed bar and can be booked for social events.

Weymouth is home to a thriving and vibrant music scene, with many local pubs putting on live bands at weekends. The popular Finns bar hosts some of the best national and local bands every weekend, with tribute acts featured monthly. Players Nightclub on The Esplanade features rock, metal, thrash, industrial and Goth music on its top floor room with a bar, seats and DJ booth. Excise Inn and George Inn also put on regular live gigs.

Festivals

The residents of Weymouth like to party and the towns exciting calendar of festivals and events include:

  • Weymouth Beach Kite Festival (May) attracts over 40,000 visitors to The Esplanade to watch the extraordinary kite flyers from Britain, the United States, Germany and Spain. Events include aerial acrobatics, giant sky sculptures, fighting kites, stunt kites and much more.
  • Veterans Awareness Week (June) includes a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the Falkland Islands War. This is followed by a parade of all veterans along the Weymouth Seafront to commemorate all those involved in the conflict 25 years ago.
  • The Historic Military Vehicles and Convoy (June) is part of the Veterans week and features about 60 restored military vehicles on display at the Weymouth Pavilion Forecourt. The vehicles then parade along the Esplanade, through the Borough and further on to Castletown, Portland.
  • Weymouth Lifeboat Week (July to August) showcases the volunteer crew of the RNLI Weymouth Lifeboats for a week of fundraising activities and events. Visitors will be able to meet the volunteer crew that sacrifice their time to help rescue lives at sea in often adverse and dangerous conditions.
  • Weymouth Carnival (August) sees Weymouth Seafront exploding into a sea of colour, excitement and entertainment. Events include the Carnival Queen Crowning, Beach Limbo Dancing, several competitions, the world famous Red Arrows, incredible aerial displays and parachute jumps.
