Weymouth Restaurants

Weymouth isnt exactly bursting with eating establishments, but what it does have is good enough. Among the handful of restaurants, there is a nice mix of the countrys favourite cooking and handy fast-food places. For those who fancy a healthy alternative, check out the various sandwich shops for your lunch. Restaurants range from the intimate and romantic to family favourites. Fresh fish is caught daily, delivered directly from the fishing fleet that operates from the harbour it doesnt get any fresher than that!

Local cuisine

The region is famous for its fresh seafood. Shellfish, scallops and oysters are all caught daily. Other popular bounty from the waters include trout, pilchards, herrings, mackerel and crustaceans such as crabs, lobster, cockles and oysters. Eels are caught in the nearby River Avon. Lettuce soup is traditional in Dorset and is a good way of using up a surplus of lettuce in the summer. It has a light, delicate flavour, not unlike asparagus. Dorset Sausage is really a meat loaf. Made a day in advance and left to chill, it is served as a starter with toast or as a sizeable supper dish with a salad. Dorset Blue is a very firm, white cheese said to have been made in the county for centuries using partly-skimmed cows milk. It is marbled with veins of blue mould.

Where to eat

Many restaurants can be found around the town centre. Most of the major chains such as Wetherspoon and Yatess are located here. For a more scenic setting there are a number of restaurants overlooking the old harbour.
