Be Safe in Southampton

The health and safety of those visiting the city of Southampton are unlikely to be threatened provided common sense is employed and a few basic warnings considered. Sensible behaviour can dramatically reduce your chances of becoming the victim of petty criminals. Paying attention to your personal health, as you would while at home, will lessen the chances of you taking ill or having an accident while on holiday.

Safety

The UK suffers to some extent from a reputation for high levels of inner city crime so its wise for visitors to be alert and aware of potentially risky situations at all times. Southampton is far from being the most crime-ridden city in England and most visitors will enjoy holidays here without experiencing any serious compromises of their personal safety.

Keeping a watchful eye on cash and personal effects at all times, especially when in crowded places, is advisable. Cars should be parked in well-lit, populated areas and items of value removed from the interior or kept well hidden at the very least.

Health

Being a well developed UK city, Southampton presents little in the way of threats to the health of either those living here permanently or those choosing to take a holiday here. With the exception of the obvious risks of STDs which every city in the world presents, there are no immediate risks to health from viruses or bacteria-related illnesses, and the risk of hygiene-related sickness is very low on account of stringent national health and safety regulations.

The government run hospitals (NHS) suffer to some extent from under funding, but are still capable of offering a high standard of healthcare, especially in accident and emergency situations. Private hospitals are also available and offer a higher standard of care although are accessible only to those with health insurance (holiday insurance with health cover).
