Salisbury Weather

Wiltshire experiences four fairly distinct seasons, although the erratic climate in the UK sometimes blurs the distinctions between them. Generally, summers are warm to hot affairs, winters are cold and springs and autumns are typically transitional seasons with moderate temperatures.

Summer is certainly the best season in which to take a trip to Salisbury; however, its possible to visit in any season provided you pack appropriate clothing and are prepared for any weather extremes that might occur.

Summer

Summers in Salisbury can be good if the country is experiencing favourable weather, but such is the unpredictability of the British climate, the weather can be hard to predict. Normally, the months of July and August see average maximum temperatures between 20 C and 22C, while June and September are slightly cooler at around 19C.

Rainfall varies significantly from month to month, with July being the driest with around 41mm and September the wettest with around 66mm; June and August receive approximately 53mm and 56mm respectively.

Winter

Winter kicks-in in December and sees temperatures dropping considerably with average maximums around the 9C mark and minimums of 2C, meaning nights and early mornings can be really quite chilly. Temperatures drop at least another few degrees in January and remain low for most of February.

December and January see the most significant rainfall of the year with up to 89mm not being uncommon. March is the first month to see the weather pick up again and marks the earliest stages of the transition to the spring season.
