Salisbury Leisure
Few visitors come to Salisbury with sporting activities at the top of their agenda, with most coming for the history and heritage and quaint Wiltshire charm. However, for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, the pleasant green Wiltshire countryside is the perfect place to head for a spot of walking, hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing.
Spectator sports
Salisbury offers little in the way of spectator sports and is not the city to visit if this is a priority. Football fans however can indulge their passion for the mighty game with local heroes, Salisbury City FC playing home games at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. A racecourse meanwhile offers a number of flat race meetings throughout the year (www.salisburyracecourse.co.uk/).
Participant sports
Salisbury has the Five Rivers Leisure Centre, a municipal sporting facility where a large selection of physical activities are on offer. Three swimming pools, three squash courts, eight badminton courts and a modern fitness suite and gym provide ample opportunities for visitors to get active during their stay.
Reputable hotels meanwhile often have their own fitness centres which are free for use by guests. Golf fans will find the public Foxwood Golf Club on Potneck Road, while the Corbin Hills Golf Course on Wildwood Drive, Crescent Golf Club on Laurel Valley way and McCanless Golf Club on Stokes Ferry Road are semi-private courses and may permit non-members by invitation.
