Getting to Salisbury

Salisbury does not have its own international airport however it is situated just 25 miles from Southampton Airport and around 70 miles from London Heathrow hence it is highly accessible to international visitors. A railway station located on a busy arm of the national rail network ensures that train access is available from pretty much anywhere in the UK. Coaches operated by National Express provide connections with a large number of UK destinations.

By car

Access to Salisbury is available from all points of the compass via Englands dedicated motorway network and A-road system. Drivers coming from London should take the M3, A303 and A338; from Southampton take the A36, from Portsmouth take the M27 and A36, and from the north go via the A34 (signposted for Oxford), A303 and A338.

By rail

Salisbury Station is on the secondary main line that travels from London to Exeter making access from Englands capital an easy affair. Services from London Waterloo are frequent (three per hour) and take just 90 minutes to reach Salisbury. St Pancras is the chief terminal for Eurostar so visitors coming from Paris and Brussels can connect easily to Salisbury. Connections are also available from Bristol, Bath, Romsey and Southampton on the Cardiff to Portsmouth route. Visitors originating from the north can travel via London or Basingstoke.

By bus

By air

Londons Heathrow and Gatwick airports are the closest major international air facilities to the city of Salisbury and provide access from all over the UK as well as from a host of overseas destinations. Although offering a more restricted number of connections, Southampton International Airport is in fact the closest airport to the city of Salisbury and the easiest to access by either car or train.

By ferry

Visitors from France and Spain can take the ferry to Portsmouth then take a connecting train to Salisbury. Portsmouth serves ferry crossings from Bilbao and Santander in Spain and from St Malo, Le Havre, Caen and Cherbourg in France.

Southampton International Airport

Southampton International Airport is a single terminal facility located in the county of Hampshire serving destinations such as Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Winchester as well as being the closest airport to Salisbury at just 25 miles away.

The airport is a well-equipped facility offering ATMs, bureau de change facilities, restaurants, takeaway food counters and shopping outlets. Wi-fi access is also available throughout the terminal. VIP lounges with business facilities are provided by BA and Flybe.

London Heathrow International Airport

London Heathrow Airport is one of the worlds busiest airports and is a four-terminal facility located within easy access of Englands capital city with numerous public transportation options available.

The airport is huge and offers a vast selection of facilities which include all essential monetary considerations (banks, ATMs, bureaux de change) and countless restaurants, bars, takeaway and shopping outlets. Facilities are also on hand for business travellers and purpose-built hotels are located within the airport grounds.

London Gatwick International Airport

London Gatwick Airport is the second-busiest airport in the UK and is located south of the city with trains and coaches providing connections to central London throughout the day.

The airport is a two-terminal facility offering a full range of modern services and amenities including ATMs, bureaux de change, airport information desks, restaurants, takeaways and bars, and shops and duty-free outlets. Business facilities are also on hand, while Wi-fi access is available throughout.

Salisbury airport transportation

Rail connections with London and regional destinations are available from a train station located less than 100 metres from the Southampton airport terminal building. Its possible to reach almost all major UK destinations via the rail network. Public bus services are also available with the number 101 travelling into Southampton from outside of the terminal. Once in Southampton, connections can be made with Salisbury by train, coach, taxi or hire car. A desk operated by Airportcarz can be found just outside of the terminal building and from here, visitors can book cabs for journeys to Salisbury.

Londons Gatwick and Heathrow international airports have excellent transport connections, with passengers wishing to access Salisbury advised to connect to central London by bus, rail or taxi, and then catch a connecting train to Salisbury from Waterloo Station. Alternatively, visitors can hire a car and drive directly from the airport to Salisbury.
