Portsmouth Weather

Located on the southern coast of England, Portsmouth perhaps receives the best of what is generally an unpredictable and rain-inclined country climate on account of the shelter it receives from both the Isle of Wight and Portsdown Hill; the former protecting it from southerly winds and the latter from northerly winds. Seasons are fairly distinct, with warm summers and cold winters, and intermediate temperatures in spring and autumn.

Summer

English summers are notoriously unpredictable, but if the country is experiencing favourable seasonal weather, warm temperatures in the 20C to 25C range are normal. Rainfall is less likely in the months of June and July than at other times of the year however it cannot be ruled out so packing an umbrella or waterproof jacket is sensible behaviour. June and July see the greatest number of visitors to the city as they are definitely the best months in terms of temperature.

Winter

Winters are cold but do not present the weather extremes that some parts of the country commonly experience. Temperatures can drop to freezing, but are generally a good few degrees higher, averaging at 10 C to 12C. Rain is common, but snow is rare, with no significant snow falls in over 20 years. Its possible to visit Portsmouth during the winter season however you will need to pack warm clothes and a winter jacket for going out and about.
