Spectator sports

Football fans can catch games by Portsmouth Football Club, or Pompey as they are otherwise known, at the Fratton Park Stadium. The team has a staunch local fan base and games are well sold; tickets can be bought directly from the ground itself.

Greyhound racing is also popular in Portsmouth, with race meetings taking place at the Portsmouth Greyhound Stadium on Target road. Nearby in Newmarket, horseracing meetings are held regularly and are always open for public viewing.

Participant sports

Portsmouth has a large selection of municipal leisure centres where its possible to play indoor sports such as badminton, squash and five-a-side football. Swimming pools are available at some leisure centres. A large selection of other activities is available at a variety of venues across the city including golf, bowls, snooker and pursuits such as yoga and tai chi.
