Portsmouth Transport

Portsmouth has a good transportation infrastructure providing several different alternatives for getting around and travelling between sights and attractions. An efficient public bus service, trains and taxis comprise the main options, while car hire is an attractive alternative for those looking for added comfort, convenience and the option to travel further afield.

By train

Portsmouth Harbour Station connects with neighbouring towns and major southern destinations, allowing visitors to do some easy exploring of the Hampshire region.

By bus

The public bus service covers a large part of the city and its suburban areas, providing a relatively efficient means of getting around. Most services start around 06:00 and run until 23:00. For services operated by the Arriva bus company, its possible to get weekly tickets for unlimited travel, which can be a cheap way of getting around if you plan on using the services frequently.

Taxis

Taxis are readily available in Portsmouth and can be booked by telephone, hailed in the street or picked up from strategically placed taxi stands. Black cabs are metered and are generally accurate, while private hire cars operate on tariff systems. Its sensible to ask for a rough estimate of the fare prior to embarking on your journey just so you arent met with any unpleasant surprises on arrival at your destination.

From the airport

From Southampton International Airport, passengers can take the train, bus or a taxi into Southampton before taking a connecting service to Portsmouth. Vehicles can also be hired from the airport, giving you a greater level of freedom and convenience.
