Poole Weather

Although Poole has four distinct seasons, the climate is generally mild and notoriously variable and changeable from day to day. Summers can be pleasantly warm but there is frequent cloud and rain which can be expected at any time of the year. Southern England has the countrys warmest weather and winters are generally milder than northern areas.

Summer

The temperate climate that Poole experiences is a result of the moist westerly prevailing winds from the Atlantic Ocean. This usually keeps the temperatures mild year-round and the summer months can occasionally see the mercury climb to 30C. It also means that weather systems in the Atlantic frequently pass over the whole of the country, so expect some rain even in the middle of summer. Don't be fooled by good weather in the mornings as the frequent changes can means that the sun may not last very long. On the other hand, if you wake up to pouring rain all is not lost as the skies may clear by the afternoon. One of the benefits of visiting England at this time of year are the long summer days, which are a consequence of the northerly latitude. In June, sunrise is around 04.45 and sunset 21.15, with a very long twilight. This makes it ideal for outdoor recreation and eating. Summer is undoubtedly the best time to visit Poole as the weather is more settled, but do expect more tourists and difficulty finding accommodation.

Winter

The wettest part of the year is usually during the winter, when intense storms roll in from the Atlantic bringing unsettled and windy weather. Temperatures are not as cold as continental Europe due to its location by the water and the effect of the Gulf Stream. This is a powerful and warm ocean current that makes winters warmer than they otherwise would be. This results in a relatively high humidity that produces frequent fogs and low cloud. Winter sunshine is much reduced and there can be long spells of cloudy weather. Snow is uncommon, but if it does occur, it rarely lasts for more than a few days.

Spring and autumn
Spring and autumn can be good times to plan a trip to Poole as the temperatures are mild and the attractions are free from the crowds. Expect showers and bright intervals. Prices also tend to be a little cheaper than the peak summer months.
