Getting around Poole is straightforward as it is a fairly small town and most of the attractions are within walking distance
By bus
There is an extensive bus service offering explorer tickets to the local attractions and popular destinations as well as many other towns in the area. A park and ride scheme is available for car drivers. Wilts and Dorset Bus Company operate the majority of buses in Poole and they provide the award winning More service, which offer high frequencies and increased passenger comfort. In addition, Wilts & Dorset run longer distance routes to destinations such as Wimborne, Blandford, Swanage and Salisbury. Other services are operated by companies such as Yellow Buses, First and Shamrock.
Taxis
Although most of the attractions in Poole can be covered by foot, taxis provide a more comfortable and convenient way of getting around. There are numerous taxi and mini-cab companies in Poole offering a 24-hour service and it's advisable to make a reservation by telephoning the company directly.
Boat
Ferries from Poole harbour allow you to explore the nearby islands and beaches and offer sailings along the coast to Bournemouth and day trips to the Isle of Wight. Brownsea Island Ferries operate regular crossings to Brownsea Island as well as cruises up the River Froom and trips to Swanage.
Bike
Hiring a bike is a good way of getting around the town and there are plenty of cycle paths. The Heritage Cycle Route is approximately eight miles, visiting places of historical interest in Poole. The route follows the Quay and out to Upton House along the picturesque Holes Bay shared-use path.
From the airport
Transportation from Bournemouth airport to Poole is best made by taxi. This can be arranged in the main airport terminal building. Alternatively, there is a bus service to Bournemouth town centre from where you can catch another bus to Poole. Car hire is also possible and you can book online to ensure a vehicle.
