Newcastle is a lively, cosmopolitan city that represents a trendy and international culinary scene. There's an abundance of outstanding international dining establishments to suit all budgets and tastes. Graingertown is a popular eating and drinking area, and visitors will find this charming classical Victorian area remarkably welcoming. Meanwhile, Chinatown is one of the nations best and is an excellent spot to try some mouth-watering authentic Chinese cuisine as well as explore the lively markets and oriental food stalls that sell delicious snacks.

Local cuisine

Probably the biggest culinary indication of a steadfastly traditional household is the Sunday roast. Traditionally, Sunday dinner includes a Yorkshire pudding, followed by a piece of meat and mixed vegetables. The most common joints are pork, lamb or beef; chicken is also often eaten.

Butterfly cake is a handmade favourite. The majority of British people drink tea throughout the day and it is sometimes even drunk at mealtimes.

Where to eat

Some of the more budget priced eateries in Newcastle include: Premier Travel Inn, which serves cheap meals and has a pleasant atmosphere. This eatery is situated within a short walking distance of the river. Easily accessed from downtown is YHA Jesmond, while Giafrancos serves Italian food at student prices.

Some of the mid-range eateries include: Cafe Royal on Nelson Street; ZiZi, which is a fine Italian chain restaurant situated on Grey Street; and Blue Coyote, a TexMex eatery located on Pilgrim Street.

If you are willing to spend more money on dining, then you could try establishments such as the Grey Street Hotel, Mal Masian or the restaurant at the Hilton. These restaurants serve excellent cuisine, but are not a good option for budget-minded travellers.
